The foundation will endeavour to promote hypnotherapy in India utilizing Indian value systems and metaphors. We aim to provide hypnotherapy for a variety of psychosomatic ailments at a nominal cost / free to patients.
Dr. Rajni Vyas had a large contribution whereby she helped more than 550 infertile couples to understand the cause of their unexplained reproductive failure and successfully helped them to realize their dreams of becoming parents. She also helped people to get well from a variety of psychosomatic ailments. The results have been published in reputed journals.
Dr. Rajni Vyas was well versed with the term ‘New Age’ and had started a weekly discourse on what should be included in New Age with Indian context. The term ‘New Age’ connotes to a way of life that goes beyond the Western values and connects us to our roots. In fact, Ernest Rossi, a collaborator with Milton Erickson first voiced the New Age concept by introducing it at a workshop in NIMHANS in late 1990’s.
Dr. Rajni Vyas Foundation duplicates the idea of the Milton Erickson Foundation –However, the crucial identifying point of the foundation is that it will draw upon Indian values and connotations. We aim to utilise the money to advance New Age hypnotherapy with Indian context to help people overcome their health issues.
For Rajni and Bhaskar Vyas, Kripa Thakur was a heritage mentor for hypnotherapy. In 1984, when we first met, Kripa told his wife Aruna, that Bhaskar and Rajni hardly know how to deliver therapy under a hypnotic trance. He instructed that induction and therapy should be according to the sensibility of the patient. However, he asked Aruna Thakur to be patient. They have genuine curiosity to learn therapy.
Until his death, Kripa Thakur visited us almost every year. Apart from teaching hypnotherapy to the medical fraternity, he familiarized us with archetypal symbols of Carl Jung. Moreover, he was the first one to talk to us about the rich Indian heritage that is to be found in a few generations before in the villages or several generations ago as the roots in mythology. Thus, we owe the New Age concept to Kripa Thakur and for any ailment that we may undertake to advice and treat. However, Kripa was a modern psychiatrist practicing in Canada. He emphasized that cancer may find its origin as a somatoform disorder so that a minor fault may magnify as a Himalayan guilt that may arise as a cancer. We owe a gratitude to Kripa Thakur.
However, one must not consider hypnotherapy as a stand-alone therapy. It can only be a supportive hope building tool that is why we name this supportive tool as 'Asha Nirantar'.
Our association with Aruna Lakhani spanned over six decades. Brought up in a small city of Bhavnagar in Saurashtra, Gujarat, she not only broke the caste barriers but also rose above religion. She married across the religious barriers and the entire family also embraced her religion.
She faced considerable challenges all her life to educate her children and ensure their future. We sensed that this excessive stress may cause health problems.
She became one of the longest survivors of metastatic breast cancer –aided by breakthrough treatments, sheer resilience and supportive modalities such as hypnotherapy. By this time, Simonton and Simonton had published their results and started an institute to treat breast cancer with supportive psychotherapy. Their results have been highly successful.
Finally, when she passed away she had fulfilled all her dreams to be with her grandchildren at Germany and established a societal support system for the aged as 'Everest Dignity'. She would have been thought as a lost case several times by medical experts but her dreams made her to rise like a phoenix. Supportive hypnotherapy will try to duplicate Aruna Lakhani’s story as 'Asha Nirantar'.
Having come to know about the successful results about treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee joint using Stem Cells; (BIRAC funded, and Govt. of India sponsored project), Jayaba at the age of 80 was brought to us by her son, Nikhilbhai, also aged around 60. While she was happy with the result on the knees, she further complained that she has pain from toes to shoulder, all over the body. We therefore opted for hypnotherapy and being an open system, she agreed to undergo any treatments that will allow her to sit comfortably for the prolonged hours of puja. Her motivation was pure. That was to do puja for Krishna as a Vaishnavite but also did not mind including Shiva since her daughter-in-law, Jayshreeben, was a Shiva pujak. Jayaba was one of the first few patients who provided ample evidence that the 'New Age' hypnosis that incorporates various deities as per the belief system of the subject is highly effective.
After a few sessions with hypnotherapy, she was able to sit comfortably for the entire duration of her puja. Sometimes she humorously joked that now she is more comfortable than her daughter-in-law, Jayshreeben.
